Biography of Kumi Taniguchi

Born in Ashiya City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.

Graduated from the Department of French Literature at Kwansei Gakuin University. Following her return from Paris, where she studied during her university years, she worked as an interpreter during the construction of the French Pavilion for the Expo ’70. During the Expo itself, she served as Interpreter and Executive Secretary to the government Representative of France for the Expo '70.

At the age of 26, she joined Christian Dior in Paris and was appointed Representative for Japan. She played a pivotal role, independently serving as the liaison between the Paris headquarter of Christian Dior and its then-Japanese licensee, Kanebo Dior Co., Ltd.

Following the conclusion of the license agreement between the two companies, she continued to make significant contributions not only to Dior but also to brands under LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton for nearly four decades. In recognition of her achievements, she was awarded the French government’s L’Ordre National du Mérite in 2012.

She married Yoshio Taniguchi in 1978.

In April 2024, she was appointed President and Representative Director of Taniguchi and Associates, a position she continues to hold.

She also serves as a board member of Tokyo Nikikai Opera Foundation and as an Advisor to UNHCR Japan.
